L.O.W. IN GAIA is based upon a three-week trip Rosenthal took in a rented van in the Mojave Desert in January 1986. Weaving together themes of aging, our ambiguous relation to the destructive aspect of the Earth itself, toxic and nuclear waste disposal, and the ubiquity of the Death Crone in our everyday dealings, Rosenthal locates the piece against the backdrop of the desert, between the beginning of western religious myth and the ending of contemporary high-tech mythologies.
